- WHCL
- My show, Anywhere But Here can be heard on Mondays from 8:00-10:00 PM. All times are Eastern (Daylight/Standard) Time.
- KCRW
- I learned a lot from shows like "Morning Becomes Eclectic" and "The African Beat". Alas, the latter was summarily cut from the schedule many years ago, and the station's commitment to music from around the world has been greatly reduced in favor of a more traditional college station sound. Nevertheless, the station has pretty good programming and gets to interview interesting artists. Many of these interviews are available via Real Audio archives. If you live in LA, the membership in the station can easily pay for itself in discounts and free tickets to concerts.
- CBC
- There are a couple of shows on the English and French services of the CBC.
Roots and Wings is the English show, which you can hear on Sunday 5:05 P.M.
I think this time is good no matter where in North America you are. So if you live
on the East Coast and you can't listen from 5-6PM, locate the CBC feed from e.g. Winnipeg
which is on Central Time and listen at 6, or the Calgary feed at 7 or the Vancouver feed at 8.
Cool, eh?
- Charlie Gillett Saturday Night
-
This is a wonderful program on the "BBC". He has interesting guests (e.g. Youssou N'Dour) with whom he plays 'radio ping-pong'. The guest plays a track, then Gillett plays a track in response. If this is done live, without foreknowledge of what his guest is going to bring in, he's a genius. This show is available live on the BBC or archived on
